Neoware joins The Green Grid to help advance energy efficiency in business computing environments

Johannesburg, 20 Jul 2007

IT Wise, the sub-Saharan distributor for Neoware, today announced that the latter has joined The Green Grid (thegreengrid.org), a non-profit consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centres and business computing ecosystems.

Members of The Green Grid comprise information technology providers, consumers and other stakeholders with the common goal of improving data centre efficiency and productivity.

Neoware joins The Green Grid with expertise in desktop virtualisation and thin client technology, which together have delivered significant energy savings when compared to traditional desktop PCs.

Thin clients provide companies with compelling savings in ongoing power consumption costs and can help companies reduce computing-related energy costs by up to 90%. Traditional desktop PCs consume up to a maximum of 280 watts of power as compared to certain Neoware thin clients, which consume approximately 30 watts of power in the same time-frame.

"The Green Grid is a forward-thinking organisation dealing with some of the most significant technology and environmental issues facing businesses today," commented Klaus Besier, president and CEO of Neoware. "Neoware is proud to be a part of The Green Grid along with other information technology leaders. We continue to make strides in delivering thin client computing devices that are viable, energy-efficient alternatives to traditional desktop and laptop PCs."

Through collaboration, members of The Green Grid are working together to address energy efficiency in the data centre, one of the most pressing issues facing technology providers and their customers today. Technical working groups provide the association with perspective on current issues and establish baselines on efficiency recommendations.
