Net managing legacy connectivity

Host connectivity company NetManage is planning to tame its large product set by providing a common management and support platform. It also plans to converge its products into the Rumba line.

NetManage`s string of acquisitions has given it a strong base for its e-business and connectivity solutions, but has also left the company with a plethora of disparate products that it wants to from a single source.

Its latest two acquisitions - Simware and Wall - bode well for customers with many legacy sources, and equally many connectivity and development solutions. Clients could soon see many of the products combined into a single product, and will be able to manage the whole lot through NetManage`s management solution.

According to Gordon Ash, NetManage regional manager, Western Europe, many customers were experiencing high costs of ownership with their connectivity solutions due to the management complexity. "For our customers, the consolidation and common support tool offers great benefits," he says.

The common support platform, NetSupport, allows NetManage staff to remotely control NetManage`s software, allowing them to diagnose faults and repair problems remotely. This software also allows collaboration between users, NetManage support personnel from different countries, and the system integrator to resolve issues without the need for physical intervention.

NetManage hopes to market NetSupport as a standalone product and expects to use it for supporting development projects.

NetManage is represented locally by Dax Data, which was Wall Data`s partner. Dax Data says it is landing larger customers and getting more projects with NetManage`s extended product range.
