NetIQ, distributed locally by 10Net ICT Solutions, has launched NetIQ VoIP Security Solution to address the increasing need for realtime security assurance in voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) environments.
The solution enables organisations using Cisco IP Telephony to improve security by more easily detecting security events, alerting administrators of attacks, reducing exposure-to-risk time and protecting against loss of confidential data.
"The convergence of data and voice networks brings new challenges to the management and security of VoIP infrastructures," says Riaan Otto, GM of 10Net ICT Solutions. "As more organisations deploy the technology, there is an increasing need for the implementation of management and security solutions. Security breaches through a VoIP infrastructure impacts negatively on call quality and availability. Therefore, organisations need a solution that protects their infrastructure and assures high-level service."
The current NetIQ systems management solution for VoIP monitors health and performance of IP telephony infrastructures. NetIQ VoIP Security Solution expands on these capabilities by aggregating and correlating security event information collected from NetIQ AppManager for Cisco IP Telephony, NetIQ Security Manager and AppManager/Security Manager Connector.
It enables organisations to monitor the performance and availability of their VoIP environments and to detect security threats. It also correlates security events and logs them for audit, analysis and forensic purposes.
"A recent survey of IT network, telephony and security professionals in the US, conducted by NetIQ, reveals that 72% of respondents are concerned about VoIP security; particularly regarding denial of service (DoS), viruses, worms, toll fraud and eavesdropping threats," Otto says. "In launching NetIQ VoIP Security Solution, the company is fulfilling its commitment to provide customers with solutions for successfully deploying critical applications and services. This latest offering enables organisations to successfully implement and operate VoIP infrastructures via an integrated approach to performance, availability and security management."
NetIQ recently joined the VoIP Security Alliance (VoIPSA) dedicated to VoIP security research and education. As a member, NetIQ strives to raise public awareness of issues and best practices for security and privacy of VoIP.
