NetManage, Microsoft collaborate to deliver e-business solutions

By PR Connections
Johannesburg, 09 Mar 2000

NetManage distributor and enterprise provider, Dax , is working with Microsoft locally to maximise an international alliance intended to provide a mechanism for developing and deploying new server-based eBusiness applications that leverage existing mainframe host applications and .

Dax Data MD, Jeremy Matthews, says the international agreement was instituted specifically to produce a version of NetManage`s OnWeb eBusiness Integrator Application Server for Babylon, the successor to SNA Server. "On the one hand, the alliance is expected to enhance NetManage OnWeb eBusiness Integrator, while Microsoft Babylon users will benefit from improved functionality - particularly in the area of UNIX connectivity," he says.

NetManage is using Microsoft`s Babylon SDKs to host its own OnWeb eBusiness Integrator Application Server and the associated graphical development environment.

"The resulting product will enable applications to be developed based on existing enterprise data, thereby providing direct links to business partners and customers. These applications can also address supply and demand chain eBusiness requirements. Availability is expected to coincide with that of Babylon and, Dax Data, will provide local systems integration and professional services around the new platform to speed implementation of new applications," adds Matthews.

David Sieff, Developer Marketing, Microsoft SA, says the new product will assist Microsoft customers in optimising deployment of Babylon by providing extended host access and application integration for eBusiness applications. "The joint venture between Microsoft and NetManage will enable companies to revitalise existing systems and applications and give them a new lease on life.

"It will put businesses with large investments in `heavy iron`, who may be concerned about competitors leaving them behind in the technological race, on the fast track to e-business," he adds.

Sieff says the partnership with NetManage bridges the gap between old and new, opening up the Microsoft infrastructure platform to such customers. "In effect, it allows them to double the return on investment on legacy applications and systems - something that was virtually unthinkable a few short years ago."
