NetWhyz is first

Johannesburg, 14 May 2004

Microsoft South Africa announced today that NetWhyz v2.1 has been verified for Windows Server 2003. The verification makes NetWhyz the first local software management tool be successfully tested against reliability, , supportability and interaction criteria with the Microsoft Windows operating system.

"The success of our ISV partner community bringing applications to market and then following through with verification or platform testing is key to driving innovative solutions to market," says Gail Moffit, ISV group manager at Microsoft South Africa. "NetWhyz verification is an example of our ISV skills base - on par with the best in the world. Currently only a handful of products have succeeded with the verification."

The "Verified for Windows Server 2003" test , conducted independent third-party Veritest and sponsored by Microsoft, signifies the product`s interoperability and guarantees customers that NetWhyz will install onto Microsoft Windows Server 2003 by means of a robust, self-repairing installation that helps minimise conflicts among shared components. It also ensures that the application will run on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and is unlikely to cause Microsoft Windows Server 2003 to become unstable, meet basic security requirements for Windows Server 2003 and customers will be able to cleanly uninstall the application if necessary.

NetWhyz has been developed by Gencentric, a Microsoft Certified Partner and Proudly South African company. "This certification is a crucial step for NetWhyz gaining international credibility," says Graham Misselhorn, MD of Gencentric. "We believe the verification assessment is increasingly an important consideration, not only for the end-user client, but also for IT companies when selecting a tool to resell, or to use in audits."

Already NetWhyz is being used by some major South African corporates including the Spar Group, SA Eagle, NPC Alcohols, Valspar SA, Plascon, Richards Bay Minerals and Phalaborwa Mining Company.

NetWhyz verification is timely considering the Business Software Alliance (BSA) recently extension of its 90-day truce for companies that are not licence-compliant. Gencentric is offering a free 30-day NetWhyz audit licence to companies in SA as an incentive for companies to try the tool.

"We are confident that once companies have installed the audit licence, they will see the value in purchasing a full version of NetWhyz, and install a permanent a software asset management program," says Misselhorn.

NetWhyz is distributed in SA though Irridium Software Solutions and Comztek. Comztek has recently been appointed as the second distributor for NetWhyz in SA. Heinz Stephan, Director of Products, says: "Comztek have tested NetWhyz, and are running it internally. It is good to see quality software being developed in SA. We believe that there is potential for NetWhyz in the market and see it as a way for our dealers to add value to their clients` business."

Gencentric is currently appointing international distributor but international orders can for now be made on the Netwhyz Web site (www.netwhyz.com).
