With the promise of significantly reduced costs and greatly improved productivity, the move to `cloud computing` is gathering pace in the corporate world, says Martin May, regional director (Africa) of Enterasys Networks.
"Emphasising its pay-as-you-go role, the cloud architecture allows organisations to deploy applications and resources on an as-needed basis, greatly reducing ongoing costs through savings on infrastructure," he says.
In a bid to explain the concept of cloud computing in greater depth - and to detail the drivers that brought about cloud computing, how it works, and how it can be used to save money - May has produced an interesting presentation, appropriately using the YouTube social networking medium. It can be seen at http://youtube.com/user/mrmartinmay.
May`s presentation highlights a number of noteworthy facts concerning the evolution of the Web, including the rapid adoption of social networking sites as important business tools. It also reveals the extent to which the latest revolution in the electronic age will change the way companies market their products and motivate them to build more appropriately designed network infrastructures.
"The trend towards cloud computing is forcing enterprises to ensure they have the bandwidth and controls in place to ensure quality of service for all applications," he adds.
"Traditional network equipment lacks the visibility into cloud content needed to ensure that on-demand applications have the flexible network resources they depend on to perform as expected."
