Networks must 'embrace mobile VOIP'

Mobile communications firms could eventually be forced out of the voice market if they fail to adopt voice-over- protocol (VOIP), according to business and technology analysis provider Ovum, reports iHot Desk.

Steven Hartley, principal analyst with the group, says there is a clear of being cut out of the voice services sector.

However, he adds that the issue poses no "immediate threat" to large networks, though it could have a noticeable impact on their revenues.

Dialog buys wireless VOIP chip firm

Power management IC firm Dialog Semiconductor says it has acquired SiTel Semiconductor BV, a developer of digital cordless phone and VOIP chips for $86.5 million, says EE Times

The acquisition has been funded with existing cash reserves and Dialog paid a net cash sum of $84.5 million to previous owner UK-based private equity firm HgCapital.

The move adds short-range wireless connectivity and VOIP to Dialog's technology portfolio. Sitel's customers include Gigaset, Panasonic, Microsoft, Plantronics and LG Ericsson.

GalaxyVisions enters VOIP market

New York-based GalaxyVisions is diversifying from the Web hosting business and opening up its extensive network to serve VOIP clients, states Top Hosts.

The Web host says it has constructed multiple networks to serve VOIP customers and provides connectivity to most foreign countries in under 10 hops to ensure clarity of voice communications.

Furthermore, GalaxyVision says its connectivity presence at major point-of-presence locations throughout the Tri-State area including New York City gives assurance of redundancy.
