A new high-speed, 10-Gigabit-per-second, stackable, managed switch purpose-built to meet the demands of virtualised servers and data storage repositories, yet designed to provide a range of versatile deployment options, has been released by Duxbury Networking.
The Netgear ProSafe XSM7224S switch facilitates a flexible, top-of-rack infrastructure while supporting networks set up to accommodate Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) or IEEE 802.1AX distributed aggregation technologies geared to increasing link speeds in virtualised environments.
“All 24 ports of the 10 Gigabit SFP+ interfaces are Gigabit/10 Gigabit capable and deliver wire-speed performance with ultra low latency,” explains Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking. “In addition, four shared 10GBase-T interfaces broaden 10-Gigabit connectivity with auto-sensing RJ45 connectors.”
Key features of the new switch include10Gbps server performance and scalability, together with full Layer 2 management functions as well as Layer 2+ (Layer 3-lite) IPv4 routing.
“The Netgear XSM7224S switch offers enterprise-class security and performance including VLAN routing, voice-prioritisation and chassis-like stacking,” adds Robb. “The XSM7224S can be deployed as a data centre 'top-of-rack' switch, or closer to the core of small and medium businesses' growing networks as a distribution layer 10-Gigabit Ethernet aggregation switch.”
The switch, which provides advanced routing protocols such as OSPF, VRRP and multicast for converged applications, comes with a removable power module for the main power supply with a second internal redundant power supply available as an option.
Two removable fan trays increase the availability of the system, providing front-to-back cooling airflow for best compatibility with data centre hot aisle/cold aisle airflow patterns.
