New Acer AspireOne netbooks primed to rock customers' worlds

Johannesburg, 12 Jun 2009

Tarsus Technologies has announced the arrival of refreshed models of Acer's popular AspireOne range of netbooks.

The most notable change is the increase in screen size the units boast over conventional netbooks, explains Othelo Vieira, Acer mobile product manager at Tarsus.

Vieira says consumer research conducted by Acer during the development of the new netbooks revealed that although customers were comfortable with the computing power, storage capacity, portability and overall usability of Acer's first range of AspireOne netbooks, an extra inch or two of screen real estate topped the list of improvements they would request if given the chance.

“Acer responded to that research by bringing an 11.6-inch screen to the consumer-focused AspireOne 751H, and a 10.1-inch screen to the more business-focused 531H,” he says.

Vieira explains the reason for the two models' differing screen-size is primarily to offer customers a choice between an ultra-portable and more notebook-like level of portability.

“Users still get an additional inch or two of screen real-estate over the previous AspireOne range,” he adds.

Vieira says it's also important to note that Acer has been able to add this additional screen real estate without compromising form factor. Both models are an inch thick and weigh between a kilogram and 1.35kg depending on the model selected and the size of battery-pack installed.

“It's a level of portability that most mobile executives and students haven't seen before,” he says.

“There's much more to the two new netbooks than an increase in screen size,” Vieira continues.

“Both models benefit from a 40GB boost in storage capacity with hard disks that now offer 160GB of space, as well as a multi-gesture track pad that makes navigating the Internet, viewing pictures and interacting with the Windows XP GUI a pleasure,” he says.

“In addition to standard refinements such as a Webcam, three USB ports and a multi-in-one card reader, the two new models come standard with integrated LAN, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G/HSDPA connectivity, meaning users are guaranteed of always-on Internet,” he adds.

“Anyone considering one of these new netbook models will surely agree that they truly are beyond comparison - no other vendor is able to offer a more feature-packed alternative,” he says.

“We're convinced that the new AspireOne models will be a hit, possibly even eclipsing the success that Acer has achieved with the original landmark models,” he concludes.
