Acer Africa has appointed emerging market expert Dave Drummond as MD. The position has been vacant for several years.
Emanuele Accolla, Acer MD for the Middle East and Africa, says it was decided to fill the MD post in response to the company`s expansion in SA.
Drummond, who has 15 years` experience in the international IT market, is expected to draw heavily on his knowledge of emerging markets within eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa to drive Acer sales, strategy and integration forward in SA.
Earlier this year, Acer also announced that Acer in Africa would report to Acer Europe. Accolla says Drummond`s experience within Europe makes him particularly valuable to local operations.
"Acer holds a strong position in Europe - it is leading in notebook sales in Italy and holds the number two position for notebook sales in Switzerland. Drummond is familiar with these markets and sales structures, which will naturally benefit our South African operation."
Drummond says Acer intends to aggressively pursue its chosen African markets. He says Acer is an undervalued brand in SA. "In many ways, Acer is the best kept secret of the local IT industry." This, he says, is about to change.
