A reliable, automated backup solution designed to meet the needs of medium-sized companies is now available in SA from Freecom distributor, the JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group Limited.
Freecom's Blade DLT-Autoloader offers maximum reliability, rapid data transfer rate of up to 6MBps, and large storage capacity. The speed of transfer allows very large quantities of data to be secured in the shortest possible time.
Square One's divisional manager storage, Lisa Jackson, says that with a standard compression of 2:1, a total of 640MB can be stored. The DLT Autoloader has space for 8 DLT cassettes in its integrated magazine, allowing daily backups to commence on a Monday on cassette one, Tuesday on cassette two and so on, leaving the eighth slot for a cleaning tape. Very large quantities of data can be saved across several cassettes.
The DLT Autoloader is a standalone solution but a rack-mounting kit is optionally available. With its small dimensions it can be easily installed in a server cabinet as it takes up very little space. The drive is compatible with all leading backup software programs and can be easily integrated in existing structures via a Wide Ultra SCSI-2 LVD port. Operation is menu-driven via the LCD display.
"The Freecom Blade DLT-Autoloader represents a logical extension to the TapeWare series, giving users an automated solution that caters for growing quantities of data," says Jackson.
Square One provides integrated IT-based solutions to corporate, retail and government clients through a reseller channel that, in turn, integrates such solutions for end-users. The core business of the company encompasses document handling and information sharing solutions; knowledge management; networking; hardware, software and consumable products distribution; Internet, IT security (biometrics) and e-commerce technologies; data storage; variable data product marking and coding solutions; uninterruptible power supplies; and value-added business services.
