New CA Productivity Pack optimizes development and management of Oracle databases

Johannesburg, 15 Apr 2004

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced the CA Productivity Pack for Oracle - a comprehensive and scalable product suite that enables organizations to reduce application delivery and administration costs, achieve higher service levels and improve performance of large and complex Oracle databases.

The CA Productivity Pack for Oracle integrates the advanced capabilities of best-in-class point solutions into a common console for seamlessly managing Oracle database environments from design through production - streamlining workflow and boosting team productivity.

"With the common console, CA`s new Productivity Pack for Oracle provides the tools a database administrator needs all within a mouse click," said Tom Smith, systems administrator for LifeBridge Health, a comprehensive provider of health-related services in Maryland. "We are responsible for administering multiple business applications that each have different management requirements, so having a common and consistent set of tools saves time and money and enables greater service levels."

Growing size of Oracle databases, increasing sophistication of applications and unavoidable heterogeneity of computing environments are creating a significant challenge for IT organizations that must keep service levels high and costs low. Automation and integration of core database tasks is therefore critical for both increasing staff productivity and ensuring optimal performance.

"Highly integrated management suites are replacing best-of-breed approaches as organizations want to shift the burden of integration to the vendor," said Charles Garry, senior program director from the META Group.

Available immediately, the CA Productivity Pack for Oracle offers a comprehensive set of tools that span a wide range of database management challenges - from modeling and design, to administration and performance management. It includes:

* AllFusion ERwin Data Modeler - a powerful tool for optimizing database design, accelerating deployment of database-driven applications, and reducing errors to increase quality.

* Unicenter Enterprise DBA - a sophisticated enterprise database administration tool that enables organizations to streamline and automate daily tasks ranging from a simple "create" to complex compare-and-synchronize operations.

* Unicenter Fast Unload - a high-performance data unloading tool that provides a fast, reliable and efficient way to extract database information.

* Unicenter Database Performance Management - a comprehensive database performance management solution that automates monitoring, collection and analysis of performance metrics for major databases from a single point-of-control, streamlining daily tasks and reducing operating costs.

* Unicenter SQL-Station - an integrated development tool for creating, editing, testing, debugging, tuning and managing SQL, PL/SQL, Java and server-side database code.

* Unicenter TSreorg - an automated online database reorganization tool that improves the speed and efficiency of large databases and recovers wasted storage by restructuring objects that have become fragmented due to heavy use.

"Database management teams are under tremendous pressure to maintain business critical applications more cost effectively," said Tony Gaughan, senior vice president of databases and applications management at CA. "CA addresses these challenges with a Productivity Pack that frees administrators from navigating between a patchwork of unrelated tools, automates time-consuming database tasks and resolves database performance problems much faster."
