New CA Unicenter option enables Xerox customers to view proprietary reports from their desktops

Johannesburg, 05 Nov 2001

Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) has announced the immediate availability of Unicenter CA-View Proprietary Print Stream (PPS) Viewing Option for Xerox, which enables users to view Xerox output on their desktops. This new option provides a fast, easy and cost-effective way to view information using a Web or Windows interface.

Many organisations have legacy systems applications that produce Xerox-specific print streams designed for high-speed, centralised, Xerox printers. With the new Unicenter solution, users can now quickly view electronic copies of their Xerox-format documents without having to print them.

Users can also select a specific section of a report for printing and/or archive reports for subsequent viewing. These new capabilities extend the lifespan of critical mainframe applications that produce Xerox proprietary line mode, DJDE (Dynamic Job Descriptor Entries) and Metacode print streams.

"Unicenter CA-View PPS Viewing Option for Xerox enabled us to archive and view our life insurance statements online - this allows quicker access to these documents by our services personnel and eliminates the need to print identical copies of the statements, which were previously filed with the policy," said Bill Schroeder, senior output management control analyst, American Family Insurance.

"As a result, we can give quicker responses to our customers and save a tremendous amount of filing space and handling time."

Unicenter CA-View PPS Viewing Option for Xerox is integrated with CA`s other popular output management solutions, including Unicenter CA-View Output Archival and Viewing, Unicenter Output Management Document Viewer, and Unicenter Output Management Web Viewer. Together, these solutions provide a single point-of-viewing for both mainframe and LAN-produced documents. Users can thus navigate content-based indexes to efficiently find the information they need, whether that information is in a proprietary-format Xerox report or some other enterprise application.

"It has been time-consuming and expensive for organisations with large investments in Xerox technology to print reports whenever they needed to access information," said Jeanette Stroud, CA vice president of product management, mainframe solutions. "CA`s new solution will help them quickly access important data while lowering their printing costs."
