A new online service aims to make immediate, one-to-one communications possible between listed companies and their shareholders.

The service is available on www.assetwatch.co.za and offers daily updates of global and local market news, and will channel news and notices from listed companies directly to the inboxes of investors and brokers who request them.

AssetWatch MD Victor Bouguenon says the Web site was launched to fill a gap in the flow of information between companies and stakeholders. "Often, important information that could influence share prices goes unnoticed because the news media does not publicise it. This service will ensure that investors get all the information relevant to their shares, whenever it becomes available."

It also allows marketers and PR professionals to disseminate information the way they want to, without editing by news media.

Investors who sign up for news updates will receive e-mails with feedback functionality such as yes/no polls, which allows the listed companies to immediately gauge investor interest and perceptions.

Bouguenon says AssetWatch already offers a "perspective" service, which provides investors with regular market and industry updates from over 100 news and information sources around the world. Downloadable audio presentations may also become available later.
