New cross-platform, disk-based storage system

Johannesburg, 27 Jul 2011

A new network attached, data storage system targeted at small to medium-sized businesses with a need for cross-platform file sharing and disk-based backup has been released by Duxbury Networking through its accredited resellers.

The Netgear ReadyNAS 1500, a rack-mountable 4-bay storage system, allows users to centralise data management while improving backup processes and shortening recovery times.

According to Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking, ReadyNAS 1500 users are able to centralise data from any number of local systems into a single storage device, reducing management involvement, increasing data protection and adding capacity without any downtime implications.

“With ReadyNAS 1500, users can implement a modern, streamlined backup solution for workstations and servers by employing Netgear's integrated Backup Manager or any other certified third-party backup software,” he says. “Additionally, ReadyNAS Vault is an available option, allowing users to archive business-critical data to the cloud for secure disaster recovery applications.”

Robb says the ReadyNAS 1500 is positioned to replace tape-based backup subsystems completely, making off-site replication and backup a complete, affordable and timely reality for small business users.

“Smaller companies are now able to build backup solutions usually associated with larger organisations without the cost penalties usually linked to them,” he adds.
