New Diskeeper Version 6.0

Johannesburg, 18 Dec 2000

"Diskeeper 6.0 is the fastest and most powerful defragmenter ever created", so says Mike Smith, CEO of Dexchange, distributor for Diskeeper`s developers, Executive Software.

"In addition to its already powerful set-and-forget scheduling technology, Diskeeper`s new `Smart Scheduling` feature provides even more power to the administrator with less effort."

Smart Scheduling allows administrators to go beyond fixed schedules for the network. With Smart Scheduling, Diskeeper can automatically fine-tune the frequency of defragmentation runtimes according to the amount of fragmentation that is detected. This means that without any further system administrator time or attention, Diskeeper can establish and implement an ideal defragmentation schedule for the system. As a result, the highest levels of system performance are maintained while also saving resources by defragmenting automatically, but only as needed.

Diskeeper was the first defragmenter released to the Windows-based enterprise market, and still remains the leader, with a network-capable and fully schedulable defragmenter for all Windows platforms. Diskeeper`s "Set it and Forget it" scheduling allows disks, groups of disks, even whole domains to be scheduled for defragmentation when the system administrator best sees fit. These scheduling capabilities continue to be an important part of Diskeeper and always will be. With the addition of Smart Scheduling, administrators have even more scheduling options in order to maintain optimum disk performance throughout the enterprise environment.

How it Works

With Smart Scheduling enabled, Diskeeper performs its initial run, keeping a count of how many files were moved. Three hours later, Diskeeper runs again, again keeping count of how many files were moved. If the number of files moved is more than the first run by twenty percent or more, the wait time is cut in half. Since the last wait time was three hours, the new wait time is ninety minutes. If the number of files just moved is less than the first run by twenty percent or more, the time is lengthened by doubling the last wait time -- the new wait time will be six hours. If the number of files just moved is zero, the wait time is doubled. Smart Scheduling also allows the exclusion of a disk or disks from defragmentation.

Smart Scheduling means that the enterprise administrator has now even less to worry about. Diskeeper can be relied on to run as needed, saving system resources, and maybe most importantly, saving time.

Diskeeper is Windows 2000 certified, and is totally safe to use with all types of disks including large-capacity disks, spanned disks and all RAID configurations.
