New energy-smart tower UPS from Eaton

Johannesburg, 11 May 2010

Power management company Eaton Power Quality has announced the availability of a new, more energy efficient and cost-effective uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for tower applications in an IT environment.

The new Eaton 9130 range, which features an Eaton 9130 5000 Tower (5kVA) and an Eaton 9130 6000 Tower (6kVA), replaces the Eaton 9120 that is to be discontinued.

“The new Eaton 9130 Tower UPS is a cost-optimised solution for tower application, both for standard and long run-time requirements,” says Jaco du Plooy, Technical Manager at Eaton Power Quality.

The Eaton 9130 UPS delivers online power quality and scalable battery runtimes for servers, voice and data networks, storage systems and other IT equipment, he says.

It is also suitable for use in other environments that require high-performance protection and battery back-up, such as the medical sector, for diagnostics, medical imaging, and patient record archive applications; and in the manufacturing sector for chip fabrication, pharmaceutical production, and chemical processing applications.

“With an efficiency rating of 95% in double conversion mode and 98% in high-efficiency mode, the 9130 UPS will significantly cut your energy costs,” Du Plooy points out.

In addition to increasing battery service life and system uptime with Eaton's Advanced Battery Management (ABM) battery-charging technology and hot-swappable batteries, the 9130 UPS also extends battery run-time for critical devices with load segments. It can also maximise run-times with optional extended battery modules.

The Eaton 9130 provides more real power (measured in watts) to protect more equipment and leave room for expanding IT systems with a 0.9 power factor.

And, it simplifies UPS monitoring and management with a bright LCD user interface, free, intuitive power management software, and optional eNotify Remote Monitoring service.

Eaton 9130 UPS features at a glance:

* Online double conversion topology
* Dual input to connect the UPS to two independent sources
* 0.9 power factor
* Graphical LCD display for easy configuration and monitoring
* Energy efficient (95% in double conversion mode and 98% in high-efficiency mode)
* ABM technology to prolong battery service life by up to 50%
* Large input voltage range (180-276V at 100%; 160-276V at 75%; 140-276V at 50%; 120-276V at 25%)
