New global solution helps organisations expand use of mobility, achieve additional business benefits

Johannesburg, 10 Jan 2007

Computer Sciences Corporation has announced Mobile Enterprise, a set of offerings designed to help organisations achieve strategic and business objectives by mobilising various elements of the workforce and related business processes.

Responding to current trends highlighted in "Connected World", a new research report by CSC's Leading Edge Forum, Mobile Enterprise enables organisations to transition from experimentation with mobility to broad implementation.

The goal is to move organisations away from one-off tactical solutions that address only a specific need to leveraged solutions that are integrated into core business processes and accelerate business performance.

CSC has delivered advanced, secure mobile solutions to diverse organisations, including utilities, healthcare, mining and manufacturing clients; civil government agencies; and one of the world's largest energy companies. Currently, CSC is helping a large healthcare provider implement a wireless communications system that will improve collaboration among medical professionals, speed assistance to patients and contribute to overall enhanced healthcare.

"The key to our success is our approach to developing client solutions," said Richard Ricks, president of CSC's Global Infrastructure Services group. "We work closely with our clients to design a comprehensive solution that addresses the needs of their organisation as a whole, but which can be easily adapted to best fit the distinct requirements of individual groups. The Mobile Enterprise solution provides a standard underlying architecture and support model that allows clients to easily implement additional mobility projects over time with less risk and disruption to their end-users. Practical solutions such as Mobile Enterprise help us deliver tangible results that support our clients' business agendas."

CSC's field service staff is piloting Mobile Enterprise at one of the company's major US outsourcing clients. Approximately 100 technicians have already been equipped with mobile tools, resulting in the elimination of up to an hour a day in paperwork processing per person. This productivity improvement amounts to approximately $1.5 million in cost savings per year.

"Because the network redefines the geography of business as having no boundaries, companies need to focus on the work process, not the workplace, when considering the benefits of a mobile mode and business design," said Dominique Purcell, the Mobile Enterprise global offering executive and a major contributor to the Connected World report. "Although mobile e-mail is a start, the real power comes from mobile-enabling across such operational processes as sales, supply chain, field maintenance and customer service."
