Data storage solutions specialist Freecom Technologies, one of the first manufacturers to offer half height options in DLT technology, has released a new half height tape drive, the DLT-VS80. The new flexible drive provides fast, reliable storage and minimises back up time by allowing files to be saved without rebooting the network. It is distributed in SA by the sole agent, Square One Solutions Group Limited.
The DLT-VS80 tape drive is based on Benchmark Storage Innovations technology. It satisfies user requirements for maximum security, high transmission rates and optimal storage capacity. With a data transfer rate of up to 45 GB/hour, the Freecom DLT-VS80 secures large amounts of data in an incredibly short time. Up to 80 GB of data can be stored on a single DLT cartridge, meaning that all storage server or workstation files will fit onto a single tape.
"It is a product particularly relevant to SME companies," says Lisa Jackson, storage divisional manager at Square One Solutions. "Users with older DLT drives will still be able to read their DLTapeIV media with the new DLT-VS80, which continues to be read-compatible with both the DLT 4000 and DLT-1 format."
The DLT-VS80 satisfies the most stringent demands for data storage. A TapeAlert function monitors the data storage process and warns users of any potential problems during the back-up procedure. A "one button disaster recovery" feature ensures that data retrieval remains very easy, even in the event of major system failure.
The tape drives are supplied as an internal or external solution. They can be integrated into any network environment and support all leading backup standards. The physical connection is via a SCSI-LVD interface. Yosemite TapeWare backup software, which includes server backup functionality, is included.
