A high performance Gigabit Ethernet, full-featured file server for simultaneous support of Windows and Unix/Linux client computers on a LAN has been launched by Raidtec Corporation, a leader in NAS and SAN storage networking.
Known as SNAZ-E6, the server is available through Raidtec's sole South African distributor, JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group Limited.
Lisa Jackson, Square One's divisional manager storage, says the SNAZ-E6 is optimised for workgroup and departmental installations and is available with 480GB, 720GB or 960GB of storage capacity.
"There are also hot removable and hot spare ATA drives and further expansion options through LVD SCSI or Fibre Channel SAN. The SNAZ-E6 features 10/100 and Gigabit Ethernet LAN connections as standard and LVD SCSI for backup devices, providing blistering performance (over 300Mb a second sustained throughput) which is ideal for today's busy networks.
"SNAZ E6 will enable IT departments to simply and economically add storage to the local area network (LAN) in a non-disruptive way and at very low per-megabyte for the 960GB model."
Included in the price is a server licence for FlashLinux, Raidtec's embedded NAS operating system. Among the key features are an embedded, full-featured network File Server Appliance with single or dual 1GHz Pentium processor; 32MB Flash for the Operating System, up to 2GB memory, two serial ports (one dedicated to UPS), 2 LVD SCSI, optional dual hot swap PSUs and 6 ATA drives, packaged in a 2U rack mount system.
Web browser administration is easy with installation taking minutes and a simple point and click graphical user interface for setup, monitoring and administration. There is also simultaneous heterogeneous access for Windows, Unix and Macintosh users; RAID fault-tolerant support; a high performance XFS journaling file system with massive scalability and high-speed recovery; integrated tape backup software; and enhanced Microsoft network compatibility and security.
