New HP device makes the ultimate family member

Johannesburg, 07 Aug 2000

Hewlett-Packard Company has announced a new home device that makes creating high quality, colourful projects easy for the entire family.

It features photo quality colour printing, colour scanning and colour copying. Out of the box, it comes with special that makes it easy for families to be creative. Many features can be used without even needing to be connected to a PC.

Party Time

The HP PSC 500 is the complete party preparation device. Easy to use software allows people to design and create their own colour invites, party menus, banners and streamers, name badges, placeholders and even T-shirts. HP provides a wide range of materials to make this easy, such as T-shirt transfers, greeting card media and banner paper.

Crazy Day in for the Kids

The HP PSC 500 could be the ultimate answer for what to do with the kids on a public holiday. On a day at home, colour pictures or even objects such as flowers can be scanned and edited, and then printed onto special glossy photo paper, producing great results. The range of pictures, cards, newsletters, banners, badges and T-shirts that can be designed and printed is endless.

Making school and community work look easy

The HP PSC 500 can be an aid to kids and grown-ups in their school and community activities. Speeding up the writing of good looking reports is made easy because all of the functions needed work smoothly in one device. Colour or black and white documents can be copied or scanned into a PC and special OCR software is included that will even scan a printed page of text and turn it into a word-processed document. Final documents can be quickly printed in either black and white or colour, for the most professional look.

"HP understands that families want to use technology to be more imaginative," said Wim Heuninck, HP marketing & sales manager, hard copy products. "This product is designed to help them do that, all from one box. Even better, as well as aiding creativity, it can help keep the kids entertained at the weekend."

"We`ve built in so many ease-of-use features that everyone in the family, even the little ones, can use the product right away. For instance, our creative copy features allow families to make a 3 foot by 4 foot colour poster or a full page of wallet-sized photos without even turning on the PC."

Brilliant High-quality Color Printing

The new HP PSC incorporates HP PhotoREt II colour-layering technology, which produces vibrant photo-quality printing for life-like colours and realistic skin tones. The new product prints crisp, black text at up to 9 pages per minute (ppm) and eye-catching colour projects at up to 6.5 ppm. It prints on a wide variety of paper types and sizes.

New Family-oriented Software for Precise, Sharp Color Scanning The HP PSC 500 Printer/Scanner/Copier all-in-one provides sharp, state-of-the-art scanning for even the first-time scanner user. The all-in-one includes HP`s exclusive, built-in scan viewer, making it quick and easy to scan and edit photos. ScanViewer launches at the touch of a button; with only two mouse clicks users can quickly and easily place photos or images into any document or e-mail them to family and friends. The built-in optical character recognition (OCR) software allows them to edit scanned text documents conveniently.

Creative and Convenient Color Copying

The HP PSC 500 Printer/Scanner/Copier all-in-one also includes creative, one-touch copy features, such as instant wallet-sized photos from one original, a poster-maker, a mirror-image capability for iron-on T-shirt transfers, two originals on one copy and auto-fit for making automatic enlargements of photos. The flatbed design allows copying of three-dimensional objects such as books, jewellery or fabrics. All of these features are available without using a PC.
