Apple`s new range of iPods will be in SA before the Christmas holidays, says Rutger-Jan van Spaandonk, Apple`s marketing director.
"The new iPod Nano is on its way to SA already and will hit the shelves in the next two weeks. The iPod Video and iPod Shuffle will follow soon thereafter, and will be in SA long before the Christmas buying period," he says.
"The iPod Nano has been completely redesigned," says Apple CEO Steve Jobs, in a media release. It features twice the storage capacity, 24-hour battery life and an aluminium design in five distinct colours, he adds.
Jobs says the new iPod Video is brighter and more vibrant than its predecessor and is available in a 30GB and 80GB model. He adds some of the new features include new search and quick scroll functions, as well as a patent pending auto-sync technology.
Really small
The 30GB model, he says, features up to 14 hours of battery life for music playback and up to three and a half hours of video playback, whereas the 80GB model features up to five and a half hours of video playback and 20 hours of battery life for music playback.
The new iPod Shuffle holds up to 240 songs, Jobs says, has up to 12 hours of battery life and is really small. "It`s hard to believe that the new iPod is a real music player when you first see it."
According to Apple, the products will be available through the South African Authorised Apple Online Store, Apple centres and Apple authorised resellers.
The iPod Shuffle will retail at R898, while the new Nano will retail at R1 599 for the 2GB silver model and R1 999 for the 4GB model available in silver, pink, green and blue. The 8GB model available in black will retail at R2 499.
The iPod video 30GB model will retail at R2 999, while the 80GB model will retail at R3 999.
