New IT exhibition from the ex-management of Comdex

While the future of Comdex remains unclear, management and staff of International Fairs and Exhibitions (IFE) have started a new company and are putting on a B2B exhibition in Johannesburg in November.

IFE MD Wolfgang Striebeck and certain of his staff walked out of listed Core Holdings in April after disagreements over the group`s management.

He and seven other staff from IFE have subsequently started Dynamic Services Group (DSG) that will focus on IT exhibition organisation.

The new company will be staging a business-to-business exhibition called Business IT & Solutions Exhibition at the Sandton Convention Centre between 7 and 9 November.

DSG Sales director Tony Holliday says the new company will be targeting medium-sized companies to exhibit.

"We have been specific about the kind of company we are targeting as the industry has different ideas about what would constitute a medium-size company. This will be a business-to-business event primarily focusing on the IT needs of medium-sized companies with turnovers ranging from R30 million to R300 million and employing up to 400 people," says Holliday.

At the time of the walkout from Core, Striebeck said he was instituting legal action against Core Holdings. He says he has gone ahead with the plan and the matter is currently in process.

Holliday says DSG believes there is a gap in the IT exhibitions market to fill as the Reed Exhibitions` Computer Faire is catering for the consumer, while the Business IT & Software Solutions Exhibition will be focusing solely on businesses.

Holliday says he does not know what the outcome of Comdex will be, but confirmed the licence still rests with Core Holdings.
