New NAS for SMEs

Johannesburg, 21 Sep 2004

storage company Iomega has released an entry-level network-attached storage (NAS) server aimed at small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Iomega`s NAS 100d servers are available in 160GB and 250GB capacities, feature wireless network capabilities, and are small enough to run on an office desk.

Robert Kennedy, Iomega SA account manager, says the NAS 100d server is an easy-to-manage network storage device designed for a small budget, yet offering the flexibility of built-in wireless access and an archiving capability.

Robin Burke, Gartner research VP in the EMEA region, says affordable entry-level NAS can go a long way to solve the compatibility needs of many SMEs that have a mixture of platforms.

"NAS servers act as storage appliances on a computer network, giving Windows, Mac, Unix and Linux PCs a storage and backup location as well as simplifying file sharing, backup and recovery in mixed computing environments," says Burke.
