New options for data protection, recovery

By Internet Solutions
Johannesburg, 18 Sept 2001

Online applications have become critical to business and a growing number of companies are not able to manage the ever-increasing demand for essential storage and backup facilities.

It`s for this reason that organisations are outsourcing their complex data storage requirements to companies that have the skills to manage and store the data efficiently on storage area networks (SANs).

Says Brian Michaels, product manager at Internet Solutions (IS): "Our Managed SAN solution includes dual connectivity to the EMC 4500 storage device via Brocade 16 port Fibre switches. EMC Access Logix software does the allocation of storage. Each server has Navisphere and ATF software for connectivity to the device and fail over logic.

"The SnapView solution includes all of this, as well as SnapView software for fast data recovery. The software takes multiple time slices in the day and stores them for quick recovery should you need to or go back to a particular point in time," he says.

"The other solution utilises MirrorView software and contains the same infrastructure as is kept on the main site. All information is replicated across to the DRP site daily for protection in the event of a disaster," he says.

IS Hosting is located on Internet Solutions` high-speed network infrastructure, at the confluence of SA`s commercial Internet traffic. The IS backbone provides the fastest international connection to the global Internet, and full peering facilitates local routing for local traffic.

In addition, business continuity features such as helpdesk integration, operational failure procedures and server network support and redundancy ensure that a company`s online application is permanently available to its customers.
