Fluke Networks has announced today the availability of the new OptiView Series II Integrated Network Analyzer (INA), a significantly enhanced version of the award winning OptiView INA.
The new OptiView Series II INA provides immediate vision into both wired and wireless networks, enabling faster MTTR (mean time to repair). The main addition to the OptiView Series II is the Expert Viewer Option, which makes analyzing a packet capture file as simple as a touch of the screen.
For the user this means faster, easier and less costly problem identification, diagnosis and resolution. Security and functionality have also been increased thanks to Windows XP Professional Operating System. The OptiView Series II INA has a touch screen user interface, large, bright backlit display and onboard expert diagnostic systems, making it suited for remote monitoring or portable troubleshooting. It offers the three essential capabilities for complete network analysis: device discovery, packet capture and analysis.
The Expert Viewer Option with packet capture and analysis offers fast answers to complex protocol issues. Packets are automatically decoded and the Expert System categorizes the problems detected by OSI layers, summarizes the address or name of the stations involved, and the position of frames in the capture file that trigger the Expert System to identify the problem. Expert Diagnostics provides plain-language problem descriptions, probable causes and recommended actions.
The wireless capability of the new product allows network engineers to stay in touch with and in control of their whole network. The analyser supports direct connection to all widely used mediums, including 10/100/Gigabit Ethernet LAN, both copper and fibre. An optional capability provides combined network monitoring of 802.11a/b/g WLANs. The OptiView wireless option contains an 802.11a/b/g tri-mode, dual-band card. The analyzer provides the user with rogue detection (authorization list) and a locate tool. It also allows testing of Wi-Fi protected access for 802.11x/EAP, TKIP, WEP, LEAP and PEAP.
A unique combination of active and passive device discovery permit users to see access points, bridges, ad hoc devices and mobile clients on the Wireless LAN. Wireless channel analysis works via continuous channel scan for a/b/g networks and wireless channel reports include Access Point/Client distribution per channel while flagging unsecured channels and indicating channel utilization, signal strength, receive rates and error rates. Users of the wireless option can also obtain WLAN statistics on utilization of the network, channel by packet type, percent of bandwidth used, total packets, protocols discovered on the network (including packet, byte and utilization count), top talkers per channel and top talkers per protocol.
Furthermore, users who are currently limited by tools which can only discover the devices on a single broadcast domain, will benefit from OptiView`s powerful VLAN Vision option. This allows users to configure discovery of off-broadcast domain subnets and see every device on that domain, identified by connection point, address and configuration. The monitoring features of the OptiView Series II include up to seven simultaneous remote access/control sessions and the capability of generating SNMP traps. The analyzer also includes the OptiView Browser, which allows the user to access and control any other Fluke Networks analyzers including Integrated, Workgroup and high speed and low speed WAN analyzers, connected to the network.
Security and functionality have been improved thanks to the Windows XP Professional Operating System. Operation and use of the product is simplified by a large, bright 800 x 600 backlit SVGA display with an exceptionally wide viewing angle. The Touch Panel User Interface combined with a graphical display dramatically simplifies the users` view of network performance issues. The OptiView Series II is built around a 1.1 GHz Intel Pentium M processor (2.2 GHz Pentium IV Equivalent), and includes a half-gigabyte of memory and a 40 GB Hard Drive. The analyzer can operate from battery power for over three-and-one-half hours and is also capable of operating from AC power.
