Employees working at Inter-Active Technologies have been given the opportunity to develop their skills and potential within the organisation, through a newly-established career development programme (CDP).
Call centre agents at Inter-Active Technologies, a leading call centre and communications expert in South Africa, were invited to apply for a three-month work experience position within one of the company's seven major departments, as part of the CDP.
Inter-Active Technologies Operation General Manager, Bevin Sandras, notes that the top five candidates were selected after successfully completing qualifying interviews and evaluations, before being given the chance to gain experience in a different department, under the guidance of a senior mentor, between April and June 2011.
Senior Projects Manager, Ian Peach, who mentored call centre agent Mzwake Bogale in the company's project management department, says: “From an organisational perspective, the CDP serves as a platform for personal growth and development for the candidates. Additionally, it adds value to the organisation, as potential new vacancies and promotions can be filled internally.”
Bogale points out that he applied for a position in the project management department in order to learn more about how the company functions as a whole. “Working in the project management department, I learnt that no project can function in isolation, and that everyone must work together to achieve common objectives within the organisation,” he explains. “I was presented with a new challenge every day, and was able to learn a lot from my colleagues - who supported me every step of the way.”
Peach notes that Bogale has proven himself to be a great asset to Inter-Active Technologies during the course of the CDP. “Bogale has displayed the ability to use his own initiative, instead of waiting to be told what to do. He has also shown great entrepreneurial flair, and his ambitious personality will see him grow within the company in the years to come.”
Mojahi's mentor was Inter-Active Technologies sales manager Rosemarie Pringle-Smith, who highlights the fact that she has seen significant personal growth from him in the past three months. “My goal as mentor was to provide Mojahi with an all-round experience in sales - from telephone cold calls to meeting clients and preparing proposals. He has shown a tremendous desire to learn and has integrated well into the team, and I believe that he has gained the grounding to become a number one salesman in the future.”
Sandras has hailed the CDP as an overwhelming success, with the second phase of the programme being launched in July. “The CDP is designed for those employees who want to expand their knowledge and increase their experience in a varied role within the company. Everyone who took part in the inaugural programme displayed total commitment and dedication, and I am confident that more employees will be aiming to follow this path, and ultimately create individual and organisational growth at Inter-Active Technologies,” he concludes.
