New PS2 for Japan

Sony plans to sell a new, lighter version of the PlayStation 2, in Japan, from 22 November, reports PC World.

The newly-designed PlayStation 2 comes at a price of 16 000 yen ($140) and features a sold-separately stand, like the original PS2 stand, for $4.

"While inheriting the functions of the current PlayStation 2, the internal design architecture of the new system has been completely overhauled, resulting [in a console that is] lighter in weight," the company said in a statement.

Apple fixes QuickTime flaws

Apple has released QuickTime version 7.3, addressing seven vulnerabilities for QuickTime 7.2 and earlier, says CNET News.com.

Some of the flaws are serious and can be exploited by luring a victim to a Web site that contains a malicious crafted image or movie. The patches include both Mac OS X and Windows.

A month ago, Apple patched another serious flaw within QuickTime for Windows. The latest version is available through the built-in software update feature of QuickTime or from the Apple Downloads site.

Lenovo launches workstations

Lenovo, which is expanding its PC offerings to try to grab a bigger slice of the computer market, has introduced two workstations, the first new product group in the company`s Think family of PCs since it acquired the brand two years ago from IBM.

InformationWeek reveals the D10 and S10 ThinkStations are scheduled to ship in January with processors from Intel that were built with the company`s next-generation 45nm process.

Both machines are designed for professionals in - and graphic-intensive environments, such as computer-assisted design, engineering, oil and gas exploration, and digital content creation.
