EMC Corporation was once again the world`s number one provider of external controller-based disk storage and networked information storage in 2002, according to new findings released by Gartner Dataquest this week at Gartner`s Planet Storage Conference in Las Vegas (a).
According to Gartner Dataquest, EMC led the external controller-based disk storage market in 2002 for the sixth straight year with 21.6% revenue share. EMC was also number one in the fabric-attached storage (FAS), Gartner Dataquest`s term for networked storage, market in 2002 with 29.6% revenue share. Gartner Dataquest includes both SAN (storage area network) and NAS (network-attached storage) implementations as part of FAS.
FAS, which was only 35.4% of the storage market two years ago, represented 60.8% in 2002, according to Gartner Dataquest. A report released by Gartner Dataquest in April found that EMC also led the storage management software market in 2002 with 25.6% revenue share (b). Gartner Dataquest`s findings for EMC do not include revenue from EMC OEM partners, such as Dell.
David Goulden, Executive Vice-President of EMC Global Marketing and New Business Development, said: "Networked storage has eclipsed direct, server-attached storage in the past two years as organisations seek to pull greater value from their resources through storage and server consolidation. The adoption of networked storage has been greatest among EMC customers, leveraging the fruits of our multi-year commitment and investment in SAN, NAS and content addressed storage (CAS) solutions. Our information storage platforms, coupled with our suite of open storage management software, have allowed innovators in every industry to accelerate the shift to automated networked storage and take greater advantage of their information assets."
