EMC Corporation was once again the world`s number one provider of storage management software in 2002, leading the total market for the fourth straight year.
According to a new report released today by Gartner Dataquest*, EMC led the $4.7 billion storage management software market in 2002 with 25.6% revenue share, seven percentage points greater than the nearest competitor. EMC was also number one in Storage Resource Management (SRM) software, the fastest-growing portion of the total storage management software market in 2002.
EMC grew SRM sales in 2002 to lead with 46.2% revenue share, more than four times the share of the number two supplier. SRM is composed of multi-platform, non-array-based management software for automating and reporting on various storage resources on the network. It includes EMC`s market-leading ControlCenter family of open management software and is a sub segment within the enterprise storage resource management segment.
David Goulden, EMC Executive Vice-President of Global Marketing and New Business Development, said: "EMC open software gained market traction in a year of unprecedented technology spending constraints as customers around the world embraced our new automated networked storage management solutions to control costs and simplify multi-vendor storage networks."
According to Gartner Dataquest, EMC also led the $1.9 billion storage infrastructure segment, with 36.1% revenue share in 2002. Storage Infrastructure software includes replication, path and volume management products such as EMC SRDF, TimeFinder and PowerPath software.
