Businesses which rely on intensive telecommunications for profit are now able to better manage their billing systems and make significant cost savings thanks to the granting of a Service Provider (SP) license to South Africa`s leading independent telecommunications company.
The license was granted to Orion Cellular - a company in the Orion Telecom group - by MTN earlier this month. It is the first SP license to be granted in four years by the giant cellular network. The license - granted at the same time that Telkom is in the process of altering it`s billing system for fixed-line telephone calls to cellular telephones- will enable Orion to effectively manage and manipulate the pricing differential that will exist between services to optimise telecoms spend on their clients behalf.
Telephone calls from fixed-line systems to cellular telephones are the most expensive calls, which can be made. MTN granted the license to Orion in recognition of their provision of specialised integrated land based GSM solutions to big business.
More than 250 of South Africa`s top companies, including many of the Top 100, are already enjoying the benefits of this GSM technology, pioneered by Don Tredoux three years ago.
The license said Tredoux, would enable Orion to provide their clients, and growing dealer base, with hardware, technology, airtime and full project management from one source. "The SP license gives Orion Cellular the ability to offer a complete turnkey solution, without acting as co-ordinators for third parties, and to take full responsibility for each site," according to Don Tredoux, Managing Director of Orion Cellular.
Key to Orion`s service is the analysis of call detail records to establish the need for a customised solution.
"As the number of network options increases (third cellular network and looming deregulation) companies will have to effectively manage and manipulate the pricing differential that will exist between services to optimise telecoms spend," said Tredoux.
According to Roy Ingle, Orion Telecom Marketing Manager, Orion Cellular is truly a one-stop-shop providing comprehensive telecommunications applications and systems integration to our corporate clients with the focus firmly on Fixed Base cellular solutions.
"We do not sell handsets," said Ingle, "we are single minded in our focus on corporate business, backed by a professional platform, allowing highly-trained teams to provide superior technology and service excellence in our chosen field.
"In short," asserted Tredoux, "we have the right profile to cater for this type of business. This foundation allows Orion Cellular to engineer new and developing markets where we can provide turnkey solutions to the corporate market with GSM as the technology of choice."
Tredoux, an established authority in cellular technology, believes that industry has only scratched the surface of cellular cost saving and value add applications, and that the networks will, in time, be offering specialised airtime contracts for this growth market.
"The excellent working relationships, and recognition from major telecommunications companies, clearly positions us as market leaders in our chosen field of cost effective land base GSM cellular integration." He said that Orion had undergone close scrutiny by MTN before the license was granted.
"The SP license will enable us to nurture our growth by providing for a full range of outsourced telecommunication services backed by solid infrastructure, technical expertise and distribution, through our four regional offices.
"This will consolidate our position as the premier independent, single source, solution provider for telecommunication needs, throughout the sub-continent," concluded Ingle.
