To meet the ever-increasing requirements of the small and medium enterprise (SME) and home office market segments, distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) is making Western `s (WD`s) Essential NetCenter hard drive available through its reseller channel this year.

Small office, home office (Soho) users and SMEs are increasingly looking toward technology that provides enterprise functionality at a realistic price, says DCC`s WD product specialist Kathy Pylarinos.

"There has definitely been an increased demand for storage within the Soho and SME markets. Everyone has gone so huge on ," Pylarinos says.

The drives are available in capacities ranging from 250GB to 320GB. They are suited to users who want to centralise and share their digital files and/or connect and share up to two printers on a computer network. Up to five users can be connected to a single drive.

"Users can simply plug in WD`s NetCenter network drive, run the installation wizard and use WD`s EasyLink utility to set up the NetCenter network drive as a local drive on any Ethernet network," she adds.

Users can also create private, password-protected folders; backup files from any computer on the network; access files anytime from any computer on the network, even when all other computers are powered off; and connect additional external hard drives to increase storage capacity for multiple computers on the network, Pylarinos notes.

WD`s NetCenter network drives allow for real-time duplication of .

The recommended retail pricing for the NetCenter 250GB drive is R2 499 and R3 999 for the NetCenter 320GB drive. The products are being shipped and should arrive in SA within the next two to three weeks, says DCC.
