New Symmetrix storage systems available now

Strategic partnership between Fujitsu Siemens Computers and EMC strengthened further
Johannesburg, 01 Nov 2001

Symmetrix 8830, Symmetrix 8530 and Symmetrix 8230 - these are the names of the new EMC information storage systems available right now from Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

The new product family features greater storage performance and capacity, as well as better connectivity and functionality than the previous models. Data throughput has been improved by 50% on open systems, and by 100% on mainframes. The new storage systems provide a 260% increase in capacity and deliver a massive 500% boost in connectivity.

Based on these performance features, the new Symmetrix models will serve as the ideal catalyst for consolidation of all data resources in the mainframe and open systems environments, including Fujitsu Siemens Computers` BS2000/OSD mainframes and PRIMERGY and PRIMEPOWER servers.

Dubbed "Hyper-Consolidated Information Storage", this strategy has two decisive advantages: increased productivity at the same time as reduced costs for critical resources.

All the systems in the new Symmetrix series are based on the proven MOSAIC architecture, which stands out by virtue of its unsurpassed scalability, availability and reliability. With the modular concept of the consistent platform, industry leader EMC can continue developing advanced storage solutions swiftly and systematically on a stable and solid technology base.

Thanks to this strategy, EMC`s Symmetrix is the world`s most frequently installed enterprise information storage system, leading the field in functionality, fault tolerance and investment protection. Fujitsu Siemens Computers proactively integrates the Symmetrix systems into its server lines. The outstanding cooperation between the two technology leaders extends from engineering, to professional service, to field service.

"The strategic partnership with EMC forms a fundamental building block of our Business-Critical Computing strategy," explains Paul Stodden, CEO of Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Our partnership with EMC goes way beyond what is usual in the industry. Close contact at all levels assures our customers that they will be able to face the future with deeply integrated and thoroughly tested IT infrastructures. We want to offer our customers the best products available on the market. That is why online storage from EMC makes up a substantial part of our storage solutions portfolio."

"Fujitsu Siemens Computers has been one of our most important and most innovative partners for many years," adds Joe Tucci, CEO of EMC. "The exemplary cooperation between EMC and Fujitsu Siemens Computers in integrating the world`s leading storage infrastructure with the technologically outstanding BS2000, PRIMEPOWER and PRIMERGY server lines gives our customers the certainty of meeting all the criteria for problem-free operation of their business critical applications with best-of-breed solutions."

Symmetrix storage systems

The first systems in the Symmetrix 8000 family were introduced in April 2000 and are now the world`s most successful enterprise information storage solution. The US technology magazine Network Magazine recently voted the Symmetrix Enterprise Storage System "Product of the Year" in terms of price/performance, technical innovation, new functions, applications and user friendliness.
