Tier One Electronics has introduced a technology to prevent accidents occurring when drivers reverse their cars.
Rear-view Observation is a multifunctional screen that provides drivers with a better view when reversing their cars or parking.
The aim is to save the lives of any children who might be knocked over while playing or walking behind a reversing car. "One kid`s death is one too many lives wasted," says sales and marketing director Mark Axon.
The application employs digital camera technology to help drivers detect objects in their blind spots.
A small camera is installed at the rear of the car, either on the inside of the window or the back door of the vehicle, where the brake light is mounted, or in the bumper.
The image is then displayed in a number of ways. One of the more popular means is via a "replacement rear-view mirror" which encompasses a 3.7-inch built-in LCD screen.
"The camera is automatically activated when you engage reverse gear," says Axon.
