New technology protects against data breaches

By Watt Communications:

In today's fast-paced, connected world, mobile workers and executives work virtually anywhere with just their laptop, carrying important organisational information wherever they go.

This sensitive information, including customer records, personnel files, intellectual property, and financials, could easily be lost or fall into the wrong hands. Derek Friend, StorVault Africa Country Manager, says: “Prevention is better than cure and it is important for companies to be prepared ahead of time to prevent data being lost or stolen.”

StorVault's EVault End Point Protection (EPP) solution is a highly differentiated desktop/laptop back-up solution that not only protects against data loss, but also against data breach.

The product is a fully comprehensive solution that includes encryption, recovery and data deletion capabilities, and makes provision for every eventuality should your company's data be lost or stolen. State-of-the-art encryption protects data files at rest, during back-up, and recovery.

Data is replicated and backed-up to a secure location for complete offsite protection. Policy driven, automatic back-ups mean that companies no longer need to worry about whether employees are complying with company back-up regulations. Built-in port access control prevents unauthorised data leakage. In the case that company data has been stolen, it can be deleted remotely to prevent it falling into the wrong hands, and the stolen device traced and these assets recovered.

All this can be controlled by a centralised Web-based policy management system, eliminating dependency on end-user behaviour and allowing clients to manage and monitor back-up and disaster recovery through a secure and centralised interface. The solution can operate on any combination of Windows and Mac platforms.

New IT governance legislation being implemented internationally is increasing the importance of managing technology risks as part of a company's overall risk management strategy.

Effective IT governance is an increasingly important element of an organisation's compliance and corporate governance programme. As a result, boards of directors are recognising the need to put IT governance firmly on their agenda. “Legislation, like the Protection of Personal Information Bill, in South Africa, makes it imperative for companies to carefully manage the kind of information they have, how it is used, how it is stored and how it is secured. StorVault is able to provide clients with solutions that meet legislative obligations and assure automatic and easy-to-use data protection and immediate recovery, enabling business continuity,” concludes Friend.
