VERITAS Software Corporation, provider of application storage management software for the enterprise market, has announced the availability of version 3.5 of its Desktop Management Suite (DMS).
"DMS 3.5 is the first management product in the industry to deliver enterprise software distribution capabilities for operating systems and applications," says Nick van Noordwyk, business manager for Middle East and Africa at Veritas SA. .
DMS features a new, integrated graphical user interface (GUI), integration with Seagate Crystal Reports version 6.0, Year 2000 compliance support and powerful backup functionality through Backup Exec and Replication Exec integration.
Comprised of WinINSTALL, Backup Exec, WinLAND, WinSMART and Funk`s Proxy, the new product offers IT professionals an automated and efficient means to manage distributed network desktop environments.
The suite`s toolbar interface has been replaced with a dynamic new common GUI that integrates the suite modules and streamlines the installation and application process.

"Such solutions deliver technology that automates a wide variety of administrative tasks that can increase operating efficiency."
To further simplify software applications and operating system setup/installation, several new program-launching capabilities have been added to the new WinINSTALL Program Launcher (WIPL). WIPL helps automate specific tasks associated with the setup/installation process and conserve network bandwidth.
Utilising its centralised GUI, DMS enables administrators to track changes on the network to ensure desktop integrity. The WinLAND module also offers new Year 2000 compliance testing and tracking features.
Isolating software, hardware and configuration modifications on a workstation, changes can be configured to trigger events through WinLAND. Notification features alert administrators using several mechanisms such as SNMP, SMTP (e-mail) and network pop-up windows.
The integration of Seagate Crystal Reports 6.0 enables administrators to generate software and hardware reporting, with graphing capabilities.
The integration of Backup Exec enables multi-platform network backups to be performed, facilitating the task of desktop management. Replication Exec centralises data replication for NT environments with features such as real-time and schedule-based replication, selectable bandwidth usage, and low system and network overheads.
Enterprise metering rounds out the suite, rendering DMS a full-featured management solution. Support for Command Anti Virus (F-Prot), Dr. Solomon Anti Virus Toolkit Find Virus, Computer AssociatesInoculan, IntelLANDesk Virus Protect, Network AssociatesMcAfee Virus Scan and SymantecNorton Anti Virus is also included, safeguarding the network.
