VERITAS Software Corporation has announced that the VERITAS VERTEX Initiative for enterprise data protection will support the hardware snapshot technologies of major server, storage and SAN vendors, bringing next-generation data protection solutions to the widest possible range of enterprise environments. Introduced and demonstrated yesterday at VERITAS VISION2000, the VERITAS VERTEX Initiative is designed to virtually eliminate backup windows and to minimise data recovery time using snapshot backup technologies. The support of non-VERITAS Software solutions will provide dynamically growing enterprise environments with a flexible data protection solution that protects their current storage investments and is capable of meeting today`s high availability demands
The first phase of the VERITAS VERTEX Initiative includes immediate VERITAS NetBackup support for Hewlett-Packard Company disk arrays using HP Surestore E Business Copy XP. VERITAS NetBackup integration with this solution provides enhanced data protection for a volume copy created on an HP Surestore E Disk Array XP256 or HP Surestore E Disk Array XP512. Phase two of the initiative, which rolls out during 2001, will support hardware snapshot backup products from several major companies, including enhanced support from HP.
"The VERITAS VERTEX initiative is another example of how the reinvention process in HP is delivering innovative means of meeting customer needs. The VERTEX initiative through VERITAS Software supports HP`s overarching commitment to provide customers with real high-availability solutions through its always-on infrastructure," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional director, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software.
VERITAS VERTEX Initiative
The VERTEX Initiative is a comprehensive set of data protection solutions that utilises snapshot backup technology to virtually eliminate backup windows and dramatically speed data recovery. Implemented through the VERITAS NetBackup family of data protection products, the new initiative also incorporates innovative technologies from the Company`s core volume management and file system technologies, VERITAS Volume Manager and VERITAS File System. In addition to introducing new data protection technology, the VERITAS VERTEX Initiative is flexible enough to support existing hardware and software backup implementations in heterogeneous environments. This new approach to data protection will allow organisations to protect critical business information with no loss of performance or availability, even as enterprise data grows at an unprecedented rate. Formally introduced and demonstrated to customers, partners, analysts and press at the company`s fourth annual user`s conference, VERITAS VISION2000, the VERITAS VERT EX Initiative is enjoying widespread support from VERITAS Software partners in the server, software, and storage management industries (see adjoining support quotes and joint news releases.)
