Nexenta expands storage channel

Open storage specialist Nexenta has signed a channel deal to qualify a range of storage hardware from both LSI and Supermicro, says Channel Pro.

Nexenta has only five in the UK. However, the prequalification of platforms from LSI and Supermicro potentially opens the door to a dramatic increase in the number of channel partners in the UK.

“We are about one new a day,” comments Evan Powell, CEO of Nexenta, “but we are keeping the bar fairly high in terms of certification”.

EMC boosts virtualisation storage

EMC has released Unisphere, a management platform for its Clariion SAN and Celerra NAS storage platforms, reports ZDnet.

The software is integrated with VMware vCenter to manage virtual and physical storage.

It is also said to be possible to use the software to accelerate VMware server performance, with EMC claiming 10 times less input and output for standard tasks and 10 times the number of virtual machines per data store.

Iomega turns to USB 3.0

Iomega is moving all its desktop storage devices to USB 3.0, states eWeek.

The new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface, which moves data at a top speed of 5Gbps, is now being installed on all Iomega USB 2.0 portable hard drives, beginning with the 500GB and 1TB eGo devices.

Iomega president Jonathan Huberman says: "At least in our space, the adoption of USB 3.0 has been relatively weak. The vendors of PCs and laptops haven't been driving 3.0 that aggressively, but that is changing.”
