Next-generation thin, light Dell Inspiron notebook computer packs performance, flexibility, personality

Inspiron 500m delivers wireless connectivity and portability to consumers and small businesses
Johannesburg, 10 Apr 2003

Dell today launched its next-generation thin and light notebook, the Inspiron 500m -- a stylish notebook computer designed for small businesses and consumers who demand mobility and connectivity without sacrificing performance.

The Inspiron 500m includes the new Intel Pentium M Processor, with either Intel PROWireless 2100 802.11b MiniPCI Wireless card delivering Intel Centrino Mobile Technology or Dell Truemobile 1300 802.11b/g. The new technology enables a thinner and lighter form factor that delivers seamless portable connectivity.

"The 500m is thin, light and packed with performance," said Ben McDonald, Client Product Manager of Dell South Africa. "Consumers can stay connected wirelessly at a variety of locations such as airports, coffee shops, student unions and other local wireless hotspots as well as throughout their work offices or homes if they have a wireless access point or base station installed."

The moonlight-silver notebook with Venice blue accents builds on recent enhancements to the Inspiron line, including new QuickSnap personalisation colour kits that snap on and cover the entire LCD back of the notebook. The new colours are Venice Blue, Bamboo, Gray Swirl and Burlwood.

For those who edit video or photos or enjoy the occasional game, the Inspiron 500m features Intel Extreme Graphics with up to 64MB shared memory. In addition, two USB 2.0 ports make transferring cumbersome music files, digital pictures and video simple.

Starting at R13 837 including VAT and delivery, the 500m includes Intel Centrino Mobile Technology, with an Intel Pentium M processor at 1.3GHz and an Intel PRO Wireless 2100 802.11b MiniPCI card, 128MB DDR SDRAM, 14.1-inch XGA display, a 20GB hard disk drive and one-year limited warranty.

Dell has a portfolio of services for customers seeking a complete notebook computer solution. CompleteCare protects notebook PCs against accidental drops, spills and electrical surges.
