Next-generation TV coming
A new generation of satellites and spectrum assigned to mobile satellite services will play a prominent role in the next major development in television and radio broadcasting, says Market Watch.
A combination of satellite and terrestrial transmission is set to deliver the next-generation of television, radio and associated multimedia services to mobile and in-vehicle receivers.
A number of new satellites have already been launched or are scheduled for launch in the next year and the European Commission has invited proposals from prospective operators. The technology has already been proven in Asia and plans for new satellite services are under way in the US.
Sensio showcases 3D tech
Sensio Technologies, inventor of the Sensio 3D technology, will participate once again in the yearly International Broadcasting Convention 2008 (IBC), held in Amsterdam, with its partner International Datacasting Corporation (IDC), says Fox Business.
Sensio and its partner will demonstrate a live 3D content broadcast simulation at the convention.
Through a 3D camera system, a Sensio encoder and decoder and through IDC's broadcasting technology, visitors will be able to film and view themselves live in 3D on a SpectronIQ ACL HD 3D television.
US predicts increase in e-waste
With the switch to digital broadcasting, ASL Recycling is adding 28 more e-waste drop-off locations to its green network in an effort to help keep more TVs and other waste out of landfills, states Ecogeek.
Expectations are that people are preparing for the switch from analogue to digital, and will be discarding their old TVs.
The addition of drop-off spots will make the green network about 160 locations strong throughout California.
