NextGen, a South African company with global alliances, and Bureau Veritas, a global certifying body, have entered into an exclusive agreement to provide information security training programmes. With this partnership, NextGen is also aggressively expanding into information security management consulting services to financial institutions, retail companies and the manufacturing sector.
"Information security has been at a forefront for the last few months in South Africa with the spate of e-frauds starting mushrooming into the banking sector. It is pertinent for the organisations to follow the international best practices in information security management systems to ensure client satisfaction and maintain trust," said Sumit Garg from NextGen.
"ISO 17799 or BS7799, the international code of practice, is being implemented by many organisations globally. Companies on the African continent need to implement these best practices and certify themselves as ISO 27001 organisations, in order to compete globally. Our expertise in certifying organisations and individuals as lead auditors in more than 145 countries across the globe will benefit this new economy of South Africa," said Vincent d`Arifat, Regional Chief Executive, Bureau Veritas.
NextGen and Bureau Veritas will launch the first IRCA accredited ISO 27001 Lead Auditor training programme series in coming days in South Africa and will give security as well as management professionals a career path as globally certified lead auditors on information security management systems.
NextGen will also during the training programme handpick a few professionals and will evolve them as lead trainers on ISO 27001, who can undertake both ISO 17799 / 27001 implementation and lead auditor training programmes across the continent.
"There is an acute shortage of skilled information security management professionals in the South African industry. With information becoming a key growth driver, it is essential that business assets are suitably protected and therefore the need for these specialist skills training arises. This course will be essential for the organisations looking at ISO 27001 certification or giving their employees a qualification path apart from individuals who want to go independent on ISMS audit side," said Garg.
The ISO 17799/27001 Lead Auditor training programme will cover all 11 domains of ISMS, ranging from security policy; organisation of information security; asset management; human resources security; physical and environment security; communications and operations management; access control; information systems acquisition, development and maintenance; information security incident management; business continuity management and compliance case study.
The course methodology will be hands-on with a focus on auditing principles and techniques, examples, exercises and discussions. The course will end with certification examination and successful delegates will be given the ISO 27001 lead auditor certificate which will have global acceptance.
