KickStart selects Serenic
Serenic Navigator and integrated business operations solutions have been selected by KickStart International, a multinational non-profit organisation that develops and markets new technologies in Africa to help millions of people emerge from poverty, says Fox Business.
KickStart supports sustainable economic growth and employment through its low-cost technologies used for irrigation and agricultural production. Its MoneyMaker products are purchased by local entrepreneurs in African nations, who use them to establish new, highly profitable, small businesses.
In addition to promoting small enterprise development, KickStart's technologies, expertise and methods are widely applied throughout Africa to support programmes in agriculture, shelter, water, sanitation, health and relief.
African ICT industry is booming
Africa has been the fastest growing market worldwide in communication technology over the past three years, according to the head of the United Nations International Telecommunication Union, states AllAfrica.com.
Speaking at the opening of a major trade fair for the African telecommunications industry in Cairo on Monday, Hamadoun Tour'e, secretary-general of the ITU, said the African ICT industry "is an exciting place to be".
A report released at the event by the ITU said growth in Africa's mobile telephone sector had "defied all predictions". Africa had 65 million new subscribers in 2007 alone and mobile phone penetration has risen from just one in 50 people in 2000 to one-third of the population today.
