The Nigerian Government has announced a 25-year plan to venture into space technology by locally manufacturing and launching its own satellite, reports The Mail & Guardian Online.
"The 25-year plan has the objective that we should be able to produce a Nigerian astronaut by 2015, and launch a satellite manufactured in Nigeria by between 2018 and 2030," science and technology minister Turner Isoun told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
Isoun said the federal cabinet had already set up a seven-member ministerial committee to look into the details of the project, including its cost.

Honeywell secures $6.6m contract
Honeywell received an eight-year, $6.5 million lifecycle management (LCM) contract from Lyondell Chemie Nederland, the wholly-owned Dutch subsidiary of Lyondell Chemical, marking the company`s first LCM contract in Europe.
Lifecycle management is a multi-year support agreement that offers flexibility in how process manufacturers manage their plant assets. LCM allows customers to choose when to modernise, what to invest in, how to fund the transition, and how long they want to protect their investment, Honeywell says in a release.
Under the terms of the agreement, Honeywell will provide LCM technology support and migrate the company`s existing Honeywell TDC3000 system to the newer Experion Process Knowledge System. Honeywell will provide support services throughout the project to help the plant maintain a safe and consistent operating environment.
