NIL launches first hi-tech learning platform for advanced ICT skills development in SA

Johannesburg, 01 Mar 2012

The challenges of obtaining high-end advanced ICT skills programmes in South Africa have been significantly reduced, as NIL announces Technology-Led-Training (TLT) in Johannesburg this week.

The engineering team at NIL has integrated a number of Cisco collaboration technologies to produce a technologically advanced learning platform, which allows students across different countries to participate in the same live instructor-led class simultaneously.

When approached for comment on his TLT experience, a recent Cisco UCS student, Luyanda Mnyandu of MTN Business, had this to say: “The instructor was on the other side of the globe, yet it was like he was really in the classroom. It was my first, and was quite an awesome experience, that I'll recommend it to anyone who is looking to enhance their IT careers.”

With a number of classes already completed, and the recent installation in Johannesburg of the required advanced Cisco telecommunications equipment to match that already in place in the European TLT Centre, NIL has brought an innovative and hi-tech cloud-based learning platform to South Africa, which will contribute significantly to the development of much-needed advanced networking skills in the country.

South African students will attend the local TLT Centre, based in Bryanston, which is set up to either receive or transmit live instructor-led learning between Europe and South Africa. There is no compromise in skills transfer, although the class dynamics are considerably different, the quality of learning remains as good as having the instructor physically present.

“This learning platform is at the leading edge of learning delivery worldwide. Technologically advanced, it is making maximum use of the current advances in collaboration technology. It offers our clients the opportunity to participate in a live instructor-led session without compromising quality of skills transfer. Students are sourced from a number of countries, increasing the likelihood of a class running with only two or three students booked from one country. But we must also emphasise that we cannot guarantee that all classes scheduled will be confirmed, we are still dependent on reaching minimum student numbers overall,” Karen Sharpe, Learning Services Manager, commented.
