Nokia camera phone arrives in SA

Johannesburg, 21 Oct 2004

Nokia has launched the 7610 megapixel camera cellphone in SA. The phone has a lens capable of high resolutions (1 152x864) as well as a 4x zoom and a self-timer.

The tri-band phone uses the Symbian operating system. Its imaging device allows a user to capture images even if lighting is low, and features night and standard settings. The images can be printed using an inkjet printer, or at a normal photo shop.

The phone features an integrated video recorder, which can record 10 minutes of video with sound. There is also a Movie Director feature, which lets the user combine clips, add graphics, dub a soundtrack, or add background music to customise videos.

These images or videos can be shared via e-mail or MMS as the images are automatically downscaled to fit the 100Kb MMS capacity.

The 7160 can also be synchronised with a PC - using a USB cable or Bluetooth - and can copy the Outlook Calendar and Contacts folders. browsing is enabled by using Opera and the phone also has GPRS connectivity. Web pages can be viewed on a regular PC browser as the 7160 reformats sites to fit the width of its colour screen.

It can play MP3s and AAC files, stream news and videos. The user can also listen to Internet in real-time. Videos and playback uses the RealOne player and speakerphone.

Nokia Lifeblog is a PC and mobile phone software combination that keeps a multimedia digital diary of the items collected on the phone. It automatically organises photos, videos, text and multimedia messages into a chronology that can be browsed, searched and saved. It comes standard with 8Mb of built-in memory and a further 64Mb on the removable multimedia card.

The Nokia 7610 is available at a recommended retail price of R5 500 including VAT at selected Nokia stockists countrywide.
