
Nokia Siemens, LG drive LTE
Nokia Siemens Networks and LG have completed the first end-to-end long term evolution (LTE) interoperability tests in the 2100 MHz frequency band; the spectrum where first commercial deployments are expected in Japan, reports Tech Whack.
The successful interoperability tests are another important milestone in the commercialisation of LTE.
Go-hee Choi, vice-president of LG Electronics mobile communication technology research lab, says: “The availability of commercial LTE terminals and their proven interoperability with network infrastructure are prerequisites for any operator launching commercial LTE services.”
iPhone users spend more
Research has shown that Apple has trained iPhone owners to pay for digital content more than the general online population, says Wired.
Media law firm Olswang published its 2009 Convergence Survey, which analysed e-shopping trends among iPhone owners and general online consumers.
The survey found that 73% of iPhone users would pay to access online a film released in cinemas, versus only 58% from general Internet users. Some 42% of iPhone users would pay for an online book, while only 30% of general Internet users would.
AT&T adds voice ID to TV
AT&T has added an on-screen caller ID on TV application that displays voice caller ID and voice mail notifications on the U-verse TV screen, states Network World.
The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is designed to integrate multimedia features and session control more easily and AT&T's U-verse Voice is the first mass-market service in the US to use IMS.
The company added more than 631 000 U-verse Voice customers on an annual basis as of the third quarter of this year.
