Nokia Siemens Networks connects Haiti

Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has been contracted by Haitian operator MultiLink to deploy a microwave radio backhaul network to expand network capacity and coverage, reportsTelegeography.

NSN has also supplied power facilities to cope with electricity outages on MultiLink's network, which provides services such as Internet transmission and voice-over-Internet protocol (VOIP).

MultiLink is one of four operators in Haiti with licensed frequencies to operate WiMax wireless broadband networks.

AT&T rolls out VOIP services

AT&T has added a VOIP service to its virtual private network solution delivered over its global network cloud, states TMCnet.

This converged solution will enable customers to consolidate their separate voice and networks, reducing equipment and maintenance costs.

"Voice service is as mission-critical for businesses today as it's ever been, and customers expect their VOIP service to perform as well as their traditional telephone service," says Shawn Conroy, vice-president of AT&T business solutions.

VOIP hardware demand grows

Infonetics Research reveals that increased demand for session border controllers (SBCs) has contributed to the steady development of the VOIP equipment market during the second quarter of 2010, says Telappliant.

SBCs are used in some IP telephony solutions networks to help control and boost the signal strength, while they can also improve call security.

Overall, market revenue increased to $564.7 million in the second three months of the year, a rise of 5.3% compared to the previous quarter.
