Nology has introduced a router that increases the number of VOIP calls that can be made using a given amount of bandwidth.
According to Nology, with this technology, more users can utilise VOIP on an organisation's existing ADSL connection, provided their Internet service provider (ISP) is ViBE-enabled and offers the ViBE service.
The company says that, because the Billion V7300NX ADSL router is ViBE-enabled, it allows users to achieve up to three times the number of VOIP calls when compared to a router without ViBE on the same wide area network. ViBE is a virtual network protocol developed by Voipex that boosts multiplexing and data quality of service performance.
According to Ernst Ohlhoff, VOIP business unit manager at Nology, in the past, users who wanted to harness the power of ViBE would have needed separate routers for ADSL and for ViBE. He said this increased the complexity of an installation as well as the cost.
The Nology router has 3G failover technology, which uses an external 3G USB modem that automatically establishes an alternative Internet connection if the main ADSL connection is interrupted.
The Billion V7300NX's built-in ADSL modem also complies with worldwide ADSL standards, supporting downstream rates of up to 24Mbps and upstream rates of 1Mbps, according to Nology. The company adds the router is capable of wireless connection speeds up to 300Mbps for multiple devices.
According to Nology, VOIP is rapidly replacing traditional analogue telephone installations, offering cost savings.
The router will be available from 1 August.
