Nortel broadcasts Commonwealth Youth Games
Telecoms firm Nortel says the data network infrastructure it provided for the recent Commonwealth Youth Games at Pune, India worked efficiently, reports IT Examiner.
To ensure smooth operations, the network, supporting 1 000 users, was exploited to run multimedia applications, including real-time schedule updating, statistical analysis, resource co-ordination and media coverage.
Different media teams used the network to compile reports and send them to their broadcasting teams. Online broadcast of the schedule of events and participants was also updated on a real-time basis over the network.
Optimism for mobile TV
The Korean Broadcasting Institute, a non-profit organisation that promotes the broadcasting industry, released a report: "Mobile TV and Its Adoption”, stating that global research firms are optimistic about the prospect of the mobile TV industry, says Telecoms Korea.
Juniper Research estimated sales in the mobile TV industry will increase 10 times, from $1.4 billion in 2007 to $14 billion in 2010.
Mobile TV service, which is provided in Korea, Japan, and Europe, is viewed as a new profit generator and countries around the world are preparing for the launch of the service, the report says.
Sony releases HDV camcorder
Sony has unveiled its HDV handheld camcorder, the HVR-Z5P/HVR-Z5N and its memory recording unit, the HVR-MRC1K, says The Hardware Zone.
The camcorder features a new high-performance G Lens with 20x optical zoom, 3 ClearVid CMOS sensor system, native progressive recording capabilities, increased sensitivity for low-light conditions and an array of other features suitable for broadcast applications, event videographers, budget movie-makers and production professionals.
The memory recording unit offers a compact flash recording option, not only for the new camcorder, but for all existing Sony professional HDV camcorders.
