Nortel Networks has introduced a fraud management solution specifically designed to address the needs of 2.5G and 3G wireless service providers.
"Cerebrus represents a breakthrough in the fight against fraud," said Malcolm Bayes, VP Nortel Networks sub-Saharan Africa. "It`s an advanced platform that uniquely addresses today`s fraud challenges, and is sufficiently flexible to help our customers address future fraud challenges as well."
Nortel Networks Cerebrus fraud management solution is a scaleable, distributed system capable of handling hundreds of millions of call data records (CDRs) a day. This can help GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) service providers to reduce revenue loss due to fraud.
Cerebrus is a hybrid solution combining advanced, network-based behavioural analysis with established rules and threshold techniques to detect and prevent existing and new patterns of fraud in near real time. Cerebrus provides a set of core capabilities common to all telecommunications operators and service providers, and a broad range of feature packages designed for specific markets, technologies and operating environments.
Cerebrus can be customized for mobile, prepaid and service provider markets as well as for specific customer fraud detection requirements. Cerebrus also offers an SS7 package to analyse information from signalling system monitors for possible fraudulent use.
